Karen Blixen Coffee Garden And Cottages
Where Unique rich History was made and Storytelling begins
A continuation of storytelling and building of history around Karen Blixen, the famous author of Out of Africa book.

The Facility has boutique luxury accommodation Cottages and a very popular Coffee Garden Restaurant close to the Karen Blixen Museum.

Isak Dinesen (Karen Blixen) startes the story and I quote-“I had a farm in Africa at the foot of the Ngong Hills. The Equator runs across these highlands, a hundred miles to the north, and the farm lay at an altitude of over six thousand feet. In the day-time you felt that you had got high up; near to the sun, but the early mornings and evenings were limpid and restful, and the nights were cold”

The main building housing Offices and Reception at the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and Cottages, Ltd. is the Historic Swedo House which was the original hunting lodge/farm house, built between 1906 and 1908. It is located approximately half a mile from the Karen Blixen Museum (Bogani House from the film “Out of Africa”), and is a 30-minute drive from downtown Nairobi.

The Luxury Hotel Cottages were built in 2001 to link and have visitors staying at the facility experience the Karen Blixen rich history.

The management of Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and Cottages will continue doing the same.

Karen Blixen Camp Trust
Karen Blixen Camp Trust is a Kenyan non-profit organization located in the unique and fragile ecosystem of the Maasai Mara in Kenya.
Together with donors and partners we support conservation of wildlife and wilderness, community empowerment, and childhood and vocational education.

Karen Blixen Camp Trust has six programs.
Wildlife Habitat Protection
We raise funds to project land like Plot 92, preferred by many lions in the area as a “birth hotspot” and safe heaven.

Veterinary project
Launched to support healthy livestock guard dogs.
The MNC Dog Project has already treated more than 2,200 dogs. The community is very positive about the program. It creates a healthy co-existence of domestic animals and wildlife by reducing transfer of diseases from the domestic to the wild animals.

Mara Elephant Conservation Helicopter Project
We work closely with our partner, the Mara Elephant Project (MEP), to protect the savanna elephants, who are threatened by poaching for the illegal ivory trade, climate change, and an increasing number of human-elephant conflicts.

Vocational Education Initiative
There is a great need for education and job opportunities for the local Maasai youth, who often want to remain in the Mara as adults. The Karen Blixen Camp Trust Vocational Education Initiative offers vocational programs in culinary arts, language, business, and information technology.

Women Empowerment
We support the local women by empowering them with business opportunities and vocational training.
