JW Marriott Strengthens Kenya's Luxury Safari Offering with Solio Camp
JW Marriott has opened its latest African property, the Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp, set within the 45,000-acre Solio Game Reserve in Kenya. The camp comprises 19 tented accommodations - 18 one-bedroom units and one two-bedroom option - designed by LW Design using timber and canvas to complement the surrounding landscape. Each tent features a private outdoor area with a plunge pool, interiors drawing on Kenyan influences, and pieces sourced from local artisans including Kitengela Glass and Safari Bronze. Rates start from $1,499 per person per night, inclusive of full-board dining, game drives, and transfers to and from Nanyuki airstrip.
The reserve is home to one of Africa's largest populations of both black and white rhinos, alongside leopards, lions, zebras, and more than 300 recorded bird species. Guest experiences include guided day and night game drives, walking and cycling safaris, helicopter adventures, trout fishing on Mount Kenya, and visits to the Solio Rhino Orphanage, where rhino calves and other animals are rehabilitated before being reintroduced into the wild. The property's signature restaurant, Mavuno, serves seasonal menus with Kenyan flavours and open-fire cooking, while wellness offerings include a treatment menu and the half-day Solio Passage experience featuring volcanic stone therapies and glacial hydrotherapy. The opening reinforces Kenya's position as a premier destination for high-end safari tourism on the continent.
