IndiGo to launch direct Chennai – Réunion Island flights from April
Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo is set to launch thrice-weekly direct flights between Chennai and Réunion Island, the French overseas territory in the Indian Ocean, from 29 April 2026. Operating on Airbus A320 aircraft, the new route will make Réunion Island IndiGo's 46th international destination and its 13th served from Chennai, a key South Indian gateway.
The announcement taps into growing Indian outbound travel interest in Réunion Island, which is attracting honeymooners, adventure travellers, and MICE groups with its UNESCO World Heritage-listed volcanic landscapes, including the active Piton de la Fournaise, and its multicultural heritage shaped by African, European, Indian, and Asian influences. Located between Madagascar and Mauritius, the island's significant Indian diaspora connection adds further appeal for travellers from South India seeking a distinctive blend of French culture and tropical island experience.
