Heavy rains disrupt roads and camps in Kruger National Park
Recent heavy rainfall has impacted parts of Kruger National Park (KNP), leading to the closure of some gravel roads and camps, particularly south of the Olifants River. Sections of main roads, including routes between Skukuza and Lower Sabie, have been damaged, but the KNP Roads Management team is actively working to ensure visitor safety. While all park gates remain operational, forecasts signal continued high-water flows in the Sabie and Sand rivers. In the north, the Luvuvhu River has also reached its highest levels of the season, prompting authorities to monitor the situation closely.
The KNP Disaster Management Team has been mobilised to handle potential emergencies, with no reported casualties or property damage to date. Visitors are urged to exercise caution, especially when crossing low-level bridges, and avoid removing debris from roads themselves. Regular updates on road conditions can be accessed online or via rest camp receptions. Tourists with confirmed bookings should verify the accessibility of their chosen camps with the reservations office or contact the emergency hotline at +27 13 735 4325.
