Great Africa Cycling Safari Promotes Regional Tourism and Unity

The 8th edition of the Great Africa Cycling Safari (GACS) has officially begun, flagged off at Kampala’s Independence Monument by Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) CEO, Juliana Kagwa. The 55-day, 6,000-kilometre expedition will span Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and Kenya, promoting messages of peace, regional integration, environmental conservation, and food security. Organised by the Pan African Federalist Movement in partnership with the EAC Great Africa Cycling Safari, the event leverages cycling as a unique platform to highlight the region’s shared values and tourism potential.

Cyclists will pass through key tourist attractions and engage with local communities along the route, helping to raise awareness around sustainable development and cross-border collaboration. UTB’s Juliana Kagwa commended the initiative for fostering people-to-people connections and reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to advancing regional cooperation through tourism. Now a well-established calendar event, the cycling safari underscores East Africa’s positioning as a cohesive and vibrant tourism destination.
