Grand Reef Airport Upgrade Boosts Tourism Prospects in Eastern Zimbabwe

Grand Reef Airport in Mutare has undergone strategic upgrades enabling it to accommodate larger aircraft, a move expected to significantly boost tourism across Zimbabwe’s Eastern Highlands. The development, backed by both government and private investment, aims to improve air connectivity to Manicaland Province and surrounding regions, further positioning the area as a viable destination for both domestic and international travellers.

The upgrade forms part of broader infrastructure enhancements, including road improvements and the refurbishment of local tourism facilities. A landmark flight by Air Zimbabwe carrying government officials marked the airport’s enhanced capability during the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanayi World Tourism Expo. Stakeholders say improved access will open new source markets and stimulate local tourism-linked industries, aligning with the government’s Vision 2030 strategy to decentralise economic growth and empower provincial economies.
