Gorongosa Safaris announces the launch of its new film series, Beyond the Safari, a storytelling initiative that reveals the deeper, conservation-driven experiences that set this destination apart from traditional safaris.

This series goes beyond wildlife sightings to capture the essence of a park that is as much about people and purpose as it is about place. Each short film highlights one of Gorongosa National Park’s most extraordinary experiences, bringing to life stories that few other destinations can tell.

The first episode, Walking with Pangolins, follows the story of Ivani, a baby pangolin rescued from traffickers who is cared for by the park’s rehabilitation team led by wildlife veterinarian Mercia Angela. Known as the Pangolin Guardians, this team works tirelessly to combat the illegal trade of the world’s most trafficked mammal. Guests who stay five nights or more have the rare opportunity to walk alongside the guardians on a pangolin foraging excursion, a moving and exclusive experience that not only connects visitors with one of the world's most elusive creatures but also with the frontline of conservation in action.

“If you want to feel inspired and hopeful about the world”, says Doug Flynn, CEO of Gorongosa Safaris. “Nothing beats seeing firsthand the work of Gorongosa’s brave pangolin guardians, working every day to make the world a wilder place.”

The film is both a celebration of Gorongosa’s people and a testament to the talent within the park. Shot and edited entirely by the in-house Gorongosa media team, it showcases the very individuals guests will meet, ensuring the story is told by those who live and breathe it every day. It is the first in a series of films designed to spotlight Gorongosa’s unique stories of conservation and connection.
