Ghana is set to introduce 24-hour operations at its passport office and foreign missions as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s push for a round-the-clock economy. Announcing the initiative, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzetu Ablakwa highlighted the benefits of extended service hours, including improved passport processing, reduced delays, and job creation. He emphasised that a 24-hour passport office would enhance service delivery and efficiency, aligning with the government’s broader economic vision.

Ablakwa also outlined plans for full digitalisation of passport services and the integration of biometric data across government institutions to eliminate duplication and inefficiencies. Criticising the current fragmented system, he called for a unified approach to data collection to save time and resources. The move signals a significant shift towards modernising Ghana’s administrative services and reinforcing the country’s commitment to a more efficient, tech-driven, and accessible public sector.
