The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), in collaboration with the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and the Cocoa Processing Company (CPC), has launched the 2025 National Chocolate Week to promote the consumption of Ghanaian chocolate and cocoa-based products. Held at the GTA Head Office in Accra on 7 February, the event runs under the theme “Eat Chocolate, Stay Healthy, Grow Ghana”, with a focus on celebrating Ghana’s premium cocoa industry and encouraging domestic patronage. Originally introduced in 2005 as National Chocolate Day to reposition Valentine’s Day as a celebration of cocoa’s economic and health benefits, the initiative has since expanded into a week-long programme with nationwide activities.

Deputy CEO of GTA, Ekow Sampson, highlighted the event’s role in supporting domestic tourism and reducing reliance on imported goods. Hospitality venues are encouraged to incorporate chocolate-themed offerings, while regional offices will distribute chocolates to hospital paediatric units and engage with cocoa-growing communities. COCOBOD’s Deputy Director of Research and Development, Michael Ekow Amoah, emphasised the importance of increasing domestic cocoa consumption to maximise the sector’s value. With exhibitions, street floats, and educational initiatives planned, National Chocolate Week continues to bolster Ghana’s standing as a leading cocoa producer while fostering local and international appreciation for its premium chocolate products.
