Garden Route: George Launches 'Home of Golf, Africa' to Boost Sports Tourism

George has launched a new regional tourism brand, Home of Golf, Africa, positioning itself as the leading golf destination in the Garden Route. The initiative, spearheaded by George Tourism in partnership with the newly registered George Joint Marketing Association (GJMA), aims to attract both domestic and international travellers by spotlighting the area's top-tier golfing experiences. Launched on 24 June, the brand brings together 12 courses within an hour’s radius of George, including Fancourt, Pinnacle Point, Oubaai, and Simola.

Building on the momentum of the George Trails rebrand, this new campaign targets tourism growth by emphasising sports and niche travel. While golf remains the focal point, the initiative also highlights the region’s broader appeal – from Big Five game viewing and coastal eco-tourism to boutique winelands and malaria-free safaris. According to George Tourism Manager Joan Shaw, Home of Golf, Africa seeks to diversify the tourism offering year-round and drive economic growth across related sectors.
