Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge, owned by Foxes Safari Camps, has released a short production to showcase this 9km private island situated along the Swahili Coast within the Zanzibar channel.

Life at the lodge is deliberately slow, intentionally channelling the ‘pole pole’ lifestyle - a Swahili phrase meaning ‘Slow Slow’. This encourages guests to connect with the true meaning of island living, with a little bit of help from the pool-side loungers, beachfront salas, al fresco reading room, and leisure areas for a round of snooker or darts.

“Most people need to disconnect from the mainland and get more energy, and then return to their duties. Ocean is a treatment. Ocean is medicine and has many benefits. It is spiritual to human beings. Ocean is good.” - as narrated by Abdul Fungo, Clerk at Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge.

Their collection of 12 A-frame, en-suite bandas feature an airy loft with two twin beds - ideal for families travelling with children - and an upstairs balcony with unobstructed ocean views. The downstairs area, with its double or twin beds, leads out onto a spacious wooden deck with a hanging daybed - and the beach a few steps away.

Each morning, the island sleepily awakens to the ebb and flow of the Indian Ocean and the whisper of a coastal breeze. This sets the rhythm for the day, as seagulls call in the distance and hermit crabs scuttle along the pathways in search of larger shells. By night, Lazy Lagoon falls asleep to the sounds of bushbaby calls and genets going about their nocturnal adventures.

At Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge, restful beach days can be interspersed with water activities, day trips to desolate sandbars, and the lesser-visited historic sites of Bagamoyo and 13th-Century Kaole Ruins, along Tanzania’s Swahili coastline.

The Fox family began building the lodge in 1992 and completed it in 2000, sourcing their building materials from the family farm in the Mufindi Highlands. Guests often like to finish off their safari holiday, spent at one of the Foxes Safari Camps in Tanzania’s southern and western national parks, with a few days by the ocean.

Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park is the fourth largest national park in Tanzania and is home to the Mkata Plains where large herds congregate as well as the surrounding Udzungwa and Uluguru Mountain ranges.

There are only three private camps within Mikumi National Park, two of which are part of the Foxes Safari Camps portfolio: Vuma Hills Tented Camp and the (soon to be reopened) Stanley’s Kopje.

Making Africa accessible to Africans

Foxes Safari Camps is making Africa more accessible to Africans by introducing their new rates for SADC citizens and permanent residents when visiting Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge and Mikumi National Park.
