Formula 1 Signs 10-Year Deal to Host Grand Prix in Rwanda

Formula 1 is set to return to Africa for the first time since 1993, following the signing of a 10-year agreement to host a Grand Prix in Rwanda from the early 2030s. The deal was announced at a press conference attended by Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali, and FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. The last African Grand Prix was held at Kyalami, South Africa, in 1993 - won by Alain Prost.

Domenicali described the agreement as "a landmark moment for Formula One," noting that Rwanda's inclusion on the calendar will mean the sport races on every inhabited continent. Beyond motorsport, the deal is positioned to deliver broader economic and social benefits, including tourism growth, investment, skills development, and local business opportunities. Africa is home to more than 100 million F1 fans, a figure that continues to grow - making the continent a significant and long-anticipated addition to the world championship calendar.
