Fish River Canyon Hiking Season Delayed Due to High Water Levels
Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) has postponed the start of the 2025 Fish River Canyon hiking season due to elevated water levels within the canyon. The delay affects all bookings scheduled for arrival between 1 and 15 May, citing hiker safety as the primary reason. Located in the /Ai-/Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park, the Fish River Canyon is one of Africa’s premier hiking destinations, attracting travellers to its 85-kilometre, multi-day trail from Hobas to Ai-Ais Hot Springs Spa.
NWR is offering guests with affected bookings the option to reschedule later in the 2025 season or request a full refund in accordance with booking terms. The hike typically runs from May to mid-September when cooler weather mitigates risks from heat and flash floods. Travel professionals are advised to inform clients of the change and assist with alternative arrangements. Advance booking remains mandatory, along with valid medical clearance and a minimum group size of three hikers.
