European Tour Group assesses Uganda’s golf courses in sports tourism push

A high‑level European Tour Group delegation was in Uganda on an eight‑day fact‑finding mission to assess golf courses and surrounding tourism potential. Led by board member Jeremy Slessor – with architect Dave Sampson and golf strategy consultant Dr Eddie Bullock – the visit was organised with the Uganda Tourism Board, Uganda Airlines and the Uganda Golf Union to support the country’s drive to host prestigious international events and grow sports tourism.

The team has visited Entebbe Golf Club, Serena Golf Resort, Namulonge Golf Club, Uganda Golf Club, Toro Golf Club in Fort Portal and Kilembe Mines Golf Club. Their remit includes evaluating course quality, expansion plans and integration with nearby attractions, with priorities such as Toro’s proposal to expand to 18 holes and create a golf museum, strengthened junior pathways through AFRIYEA Golf Academy, and scoping new sites in Nakasongola and Hoima – aiming to shape a roadmap for upgrades, tournament bids and wider economic impact.
