Etihad and Africa World Airlines Sign West Africa Partnership

Etihad Airways and Africa World Airlines have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a strategic partnership covering codeshare and interline cooperation, cargo collaboration, and frequent flyer programmes. The agreement, which took effect on 24 July 2026, will allow travellers to connect seamlessly between Africa World Airlines' West African network - including destinations across Ghana, Nigeria, and Burkina Faso - and Etihad's 118-destination global network via Abu Dhabi.

The partnership also extends to cargo, linking Ghanaian and West African exporters with Etihad Cargo's global capacity, while loyalty programme members of both airlines will gain additional earn-and-redeem opportunities. The cooperation is being implemented in stages and sets the stage for Etihad's planned Abu Dhabi - Accra direct service, due to launch on 24 March 2027. The deal comes as trade, investment, and travel between Ghana and the UAE continue to grow.
