Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest network carrier, has announced plans to inaugurate three new domestic airports at Negele Borena, Gore Metu and Debre Markos, with thrice-weekly passenger services to each by mid-April 2026. The additions will expand the airline’s domestic network to 26 destinations, strengthening internal connectivity and supporting tourism and regional economic development.

The expansion follows the 2025 opening of Yabello as the carrier’s 23rd domestic destination and sits alongside ongoing upgrades to domestic infrastructure. Ethiopian said the move aligns with its strategy to build an inclusive, asset-light network that improves access to underserved regions, with rate-led growth and modernised facilities expected to enhance the traveller experience and support local markets.
