Ethiopian Airlines is set to launch a new three-times-weekly direct passenger service between Addis Ababa and Port Louis, Mauritius, effective 12 July 2026. Operating on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays using a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, the route will depart Addis Ababa at 08:50, arriving in Mauritius at 15:20, with the return leg departing Port Louis at 16:15. Prior to this launch, the airline served Mauritius only through interline and codeshare arrangements via regional hubs including Johannesburg, Nairobi, and Antananarivo. CEO Mesfin Tasew said the new service would make it "easier for Africans and other international tourists to visit this beautiful African island destination, while also enhancing business and trade opportunities."

The new route forms part of Ethiopian Airlines' broader strategy to deepen continental connectivity and strengthen trade and tourism links across Southeast Africa. As Africa's largest network carrier, operating to more than 160 destinations across five continents, the airline has identified expanding its African network as a top priority in line with its Vision 2035 growth plan. The direct service is expected to reduce travel times significantly for passengers previously routed through third-country hubs, while also opening new connection options across the airline's wider network.
