Ethiopian Airlines commenced flights to Lyon, France, on 2 July 2026, adding a third French destination to its European network alongside Paris and Marseille. The new route operates three times per week, connecting Lyon to the airline's extensive global network via its Addis Ababa hub, opening direct links between the French city and destinations across Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Group CEO Mesfin Tasew described the launch as a further strengthening of Ethiopian Airlines' long-standing ties with France, noting the airline's decades-long presence in the French market. The addition of Lyon forms part of the carrier's broader network expansion strategy under its Vision 2035 plan, which aims to position the airline among the world's top 20 aviation groups. For the African tourism and travel trade, the new route adds a further European gateway through which inbound travellers can connect to the continent via Addis Ababa.
