Ethiopia’s Fossils Lucy and Selam Head to Europe for Landmark Exhibition

Ethiopia’s iconic hominid fossils, Lucy (Dinknesh) and Selam, have been sent to Prague for display in the upcoming Human Origins and Fossils exhibition at the National Museum of the Czech Republic, opening on 25 August 2025. Tourism Minister Selamawit Kassa described the exhibition as a unique opportunity to showcase Ethiopia’s prehistoric legacy to a European audience, reaffirming the country’s reputation as the “Land of Origins”.

The fossils, among the most significant in human evolution, were discovered in Ethiopia and are rarely seen outside the country. Their inclusion in the exhibition is backed by wider cultural exchange plans, including business forums and art shows aimed at promoting Ethiopia’s heritage and boosting international engagement. The initiative highlights Ethiopia’s strategic use of cultural tourism to raise its global profile and attract interest in its historical assets.
