Addis Ababa is strengthening its position as Africa's leading conference destination through significant developments in tourist infrastructure and cultural attractions. The Ethiopian capital, already home to the African Union and UN Economic Commission for Africa, has hosted 20 major conferences in the past three months alone.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, addressing parliament, highlighted several transformative projects including Sheger Park, Friendship Park, Unity Park and the new Addis Ababa Science Museum. These developments aim to enhance tourists’ experiences while showcasing Ethiopia's cultural heritage.

The initiative includes the new Adwa Victory Museum, commemorating Ethiopia's historic battle victory, and various eco-friendly lodges. These additions complement the city's existing diplomatic infrastructure and conference facilities.

Prime Minister Ahmed also announced plans to expand Ethiopian Airlines' capacity with a new mega airport and an order for 124 new aircraft, further enhancing the country's connectivity for international events.

The developments aim to encourage conference delegates to extend their stays and explore Ethiopia's wider attractions, from the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela to the Simien Mountains, supporting the country's broader tourism economy.
