Egypt and Morocco are vying for the title of Africa’s top travel destination, with both nations using sports tourism and cultural heritage to fuel visitor numbers. Morocco led arrivals in 2024, recording 17.4 million visitors—a 20% increase—while Egypt reached 15.7 million, with projections to hit 18 million in 2025. Morocco is leveraging major upcoming tournaments such as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and its co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, while Egypt is banking on the Grand Egyptian Museum's official opening and its growing sports industry, highlighted by the recent Sports Expo 2025.

Across the continent, other key markets are also reporting strong growth. South Africa saw 8.92 million arrivals in 2024, with Zimbabwe leading as its largest source market. Kenya welcomed 2.39 million visitors, marking a 14.6% rise, driven by increased air connectivity and strategic marketing. Ghana posted the highest percentage growth in arrivals, up 149%, aided by a new visa waiver and expanded flight access. According to IATA, Africa experienced a 14.9% rise in passenger demand in early 2025, pointing to sustained momentum in the region's tourism sector.
