CemAir is pleased to announce the return of its scheduled service between Johannesburg and Richards Bay, with flights resuming on 1 November 2026. Bookings for the reinstated route open on 16 July 2026 and will be available across all CemAir booking platforms, including the airline's website, Contact Centre, accredited travel agents, as well as through CemAir's existing interline and codeshare partnerships.

The return of the Richards Bay service reflects CemAir's continued commitment to strengthening regional connectivity across South Africa by linking key economic centres with reliable, full service air travel.

Richards Bay is home to the Port of Richards Bay, the largest port in South Africa by cargo volumes and Africa's largest coal export facility, making it one of the country's most significant industrial and logistics hubs. The city is a vital centre for the mining, manufacturing, forestry and maritime sectors, attracting a steady flow of corporate travellers, investors and industry professionals.

The reinstated service will provide business travellers with a convenient and time efficient alternative to lengthy road travel, while creating greater opportunities for companies operating in KwaZulu-Natal and beyond. Through Johannesburg, the route will also provide seamless onward connections across CemAir's domestic and regional network, making travel more efficient for both corporate and leisure passengers.

In addition to its commercial significance, Richards Bay is renowned for its pristine beaches, abundant birdlife, world class fishing and close proximity to some of South Africa's most celebrated game reserves and nature reserves. The route offers leisure travellers a convenient gateway to the spectacular Zululand region, known for its exceptional wildlife, outdoor experiences and rich cultural heritage.

"CemAir is delighted to restore this important route to our network," says Shaniel Singh, Chief Commercial Officer at CemAir. "Richards Bay is a key economic hub that plays an important role in South Africa's industrial landscape, and we know there has been strong demand for reliable air connectivity to the region. By returning this service, we are making it easier for business travellers to access one of the country's busiest commercial centres while also opening the door for more visitors to experience the incredible attractions of northern KwaZulu-Natal."

As a full service airline, CemAir continues to offer passengers exceptional value, with checked baggage, complimentary onboard refreshments and a comfortable travel experience included in every fare.
