Canon extends coral conservation programme to Kenya with Oceans Alive

Canon Central and North Africa is expanding Canon EMEA’s World Unseen 2.0 coral conservation initiative into East Africa, partnering with Kenya’s Oceans Alive Foundation to support science-led reef restoration, community training and imaging-enabled monitoring along the North Coast. The move aims to strengthen reef resilience – critical to coastal protection, fisheries and marine tourism – by combining conservation science with advanced cameras and community capacity building.

The regional chapter builds on Canon’s work with Nature Seychelles and Coral Spawning International and will fund nursery tables and reef infrastructure, equip teams with EOS R8 and PowerShot G7 X Mark III systems, and deliver youth training and storytelling through Canon Academy, with transparent impact reporting. With coral reefs covering under 1% of the ocean yet supporting about a quarter of marine life – and more than half lost in three decades – the programme targets measurable ecological and socio-economic gains that enhance destination appeal and livelihoods in Kenya’s coastal communities.
