Cameroon launches Legal Hub to strengthen wildlife governance and tourism
Cameroon’s Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife has launched the Legal Hub in Yaoundé – a digital platform that centralises wildlife laws and management protocols. Developed with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization under the EU‑backed Sustainable Wildlife Management Programme, the tool aims to improve transparency, curb poaching and safeguard rural livelihoods, supporting the conditions for sustainable tourism.
Integrated with the 2024 Forestry and Wildlife Law, the Hub compiles legal analyses and policy guidance to expand community rights, strengthen anti-poaching measures and align Cameroon with international biodiversity standards. MINFOF, working with CIFOR-ICRAF and national stakeholders, expects the platform to improve legal literacy, guide reforms and attract investment in conservation‑linked activities – including ecotourism, biodiversity research and forest‑based livelihoods. The initiative forms part of the Sustainable Wildlife Management Programme, which operates in 16 countries and is funded by the EU, the French Global Environment Facility and the French Development Agency.
