Cairo leads Africa’s airports in December – OR Tambo and Addis follow
Africa’s busiest airports during the December 2025 peak were led by Cairo International, which retained top spot with 1.69 million departing seats, according to OAG. Johannesburg OR Tambo and Addis Ababa Bole followed with 1.22 million and 1.17 million seats respectively, reflecting strong festive demand and the hubs’ roles linking Africa with Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.
Morocco’s gateways posted standout growth – Casablanca handled 684,000 seats, up 17.5%, and Marrakech 588,000, up 13.6%. Cape Town recorded 664,000 seats (+5.5%), Algiers 552,000 (+10.0%), Nairobi 505,000 (+0.2%), Lagos 496,000 (+1.3%) and Hurghada 469,000 (+5.8%), underscoring robust North and Southern African capacity and rising seasonal demand into Morocco.
