Azamara Journey docks in Mombasa

The cruise ship Azamara Journey docked at the Port of Mombasa on 12 January, bringing 690 passengers as part of a 16‑day East Africa and Indian Ocean itinerary. Kenya’s Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said it is the third major cruise call of the 2025/26 season, following SH Diana and Crystal Symphony, underscoring efforts to diversify tourism beyond safaris.

The voyage began in Port Louis, Mauritius on 4 January, with calls in Madagascar, Mayotte and Zanzibar, and will continue to La Digue, Praslin and Mahé in the Seychelles before returning to Mauritius on 20 January. Officials cite modern port facilities in Mombasa and a streamlined Electronic Travel Authorisation as growth drivers, with tourism contributing a record Sh452.2 billion in 2024 and sea arrivals up 140 per cent. The season is expected to further benefit local hotels, restaurants, tour operators and port services.
