ATTA® Travel Update: Kenya Confirms Single Imported Ebola Case
Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, has confirmed that the country is not experiencing an Ebola outbreak following the detection of a single imported case linked to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The patient died on 6 October 2026. Health authorities have identified 57 contacts, ten of whom have been placed under quarantine at the National Police Service Hospital in Nairobi, while contact tracing continues.
Kenya has activated its preparedness and response measures, with five designated isolation facilities offering a combined capacity of over 240 beds. Health screening has also been intensified at points of entry, particularly for travellers arriving from the DRC and neighbouring countries, with temporary isolation centres established at key border points.
Travellers are encouraged to complete health declaration forms accurately and follow official health guidance. The Ministry of Health has urged the public to remain calm, seek medical attention promptly if symptoms develop, and refer to official channels for updates.
