Arusha Strengthens Tourism Position with 3.5 Trillion/- Investment and Airport Upgrades
Tanzania’s Arusha Region has seen significant economic growth over the past four years, bolstered by a 3.5 trillion/- development investment across various sectors. Regional Commissioner Kenan Kihongosi highlighted the impact of the tourism-promoting documentary The Royal Tour as a key driver in renewed interest and funding. A major focus has been aviation infrastructure, with Arusha and Lake Manyara airports receiving over 103 billion/- for expansion and upgrades. Notably, Arusha Airport will commence 24-hour international operations this December to accommodate rising tourist arrivals and reduce pressure on Kilimanjaro International Airport.
The government has also invested in enhancing tourism offerings, including the construction of a modern geological museum at the Ngorongoro-Lengai UNESCO Global Geopark. Supported by China and managed by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, the project aims to boost scientific tourism and extend visitor stays. Alongside tourism-focused developments, additional funds have supported projects in agriculture, health, education, and infrastructure, helping to raise local government revenue and per capita income. The advancements position Arusha as a growing hub in Tanzania’s northern tourism circuit.
