Airbus Hails Ethiopian Airlines as Africa's Aviation Success Story
Airbus's Airline Marketing Director for Africa, Joep Ellers, has praised Ethiopian Airlines as the continent's foremost aviation success story, highlighting the carrier's role in driving connectivity and socio-economic development across Africa. Speaking to ENA, Ellers noted that the airline - operating for more than 80 years - continues to modernise its fleet with aircraft including the Airbus A350-900 and A350-1000, while serving as a significant driver of tourism growth, investment attraction, and employment creation across related industries.
Ellers also underscored the deepening partnership between Airbus and Ethiopian Airlines, which spans aircraft maintenance support, fleet planning, and future development discussions around models such as the A220 and A330neo. Beyond its passenger operations, Ethiopian Airlines has built a broad aviation ecosystem encompassing MRO services, hospitality, and the Ethiopian Aviation Academy - which collaborates with Airbus and international universities, including institutions in France, to develop advanced aviation programmes. Ellers described the airline's ambition to connect destinations across Africa and global markets as a reflection of a strong "pioneer spirit," adding that its service culture sets it apart on the world stage.
