AirAsia X to Suspend Kuala Lumpur–Nairobi Route from September

AirAsia X will suspend its direct services between Kuala Lumpur and Nairobi from 1 September 2025, citing lower-than-expected travel demand. The route, launched in November 2024, was the airline’s first foray into East Africa and aimed to strengthen tourism and trade ties between Asia and Africa. Operated four times weekly under flight code D7, it remains the only direct air link between Malaysia and the continent.
The suspension forms part of AirAsia X’s wider network optimisation strategy. Passengers affected by the change have been offered options including full refunds, travel credits, or free-of-charge flight changes for travel before 31 August. The airline said it would continue assessing global demand and route viability while maintaining a focus on affordable, long-haul connectivity.
