Air Tanzania launches Accra service expanding West Africa reach
Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) launched a direct Dar es Salaam–Accra service on 28 January 2026, adding its 32nd destination and second in West Africa after Lagos. The inaugural Boeing 737-9 Max flight received a water cannon salute at Kotoka International Airport, with the carrier set to operate three weekly flights via Lagos, making ATCL the 26th international airline serving the Ghanaian capital and strengthening East–West Africa connectivity.
The route follows December launches to Cape Town and Victoria Falls and comes as ATCL reports 1.5 million passengers carried in 2025 and plans three new domestic routes to Rukwa, Shinyanga and Musoma. Officials said the Accra link will cut transit times for West African travellers to Tanzania and onward to Asia – notably China and India – and is expected to support tourism flows to Zanzibar and key mainland attractions, alongside wider trade and employment opportunities in both markets.
