Air Mauritius and MTPA Deepen Partnership to Drive UK Tourism Growth

Air Mauritius and the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) have presented a strengthened joint strategy to UK hoteliers, travel agents and media, aimed at expanding visitor numbers from Britain through enhanced air connectivity and a broadened tourism offering. The initiative centres on a "slow luxury" approach encompassing wellbeing, sports tourism, golf and the MICE segment, positioning Mauritius beyond its established reputation as a honeymoon destination. Air Mauritius currently operates up to five non-stop weekly flights between London Gatwick and Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, offering 159,164 seats annually, with Chief Commercial Officer Laurent Recoura stating the airline aims to increase this to a daily service as soon as possible.

The airline's fleet of four Airbus A350-900s, two A330-900neos, two A330-200s and four ATR72 turboprops is set to grow, with three additional A350 aircraft on order - the first expected in December 2026 - which will also increase Business Class capacity from 28 to 32 seats. Sustainability forms a central pillar of the strategy, with MTPA Chairman Dinesh Burrenchobay noting that as an island nation, regenerative tourism is "not optional - it is essential." Both organisations will jointly participate in World Travel Market London in November and have launched the global "#WeareMauritius" digital and social media campaign as part of their coordinated international destination marketing efforts.
