Africa Geographic’s Photographer of the Year 2025 is now open – with a magical Congo safari prize up for grabs
Africa Geographic’s much-anticipated Photographer of the Year 2025 is now open for entries. This year, the three winning photographers and their partners will receive an extraordinary safari prize: a journey to the heart of the Congo – into Odzala-Kokoua National Park – presented by Africa Geographic in association with Ukuri and African Parks.
Photographer of the Year 2025 winners will join an Africa Geographic expedition to Odzala-Kokoua National Park in Congo-Brazzaville to search for lowland gorillas, forest elephants, forest buffaloes and flocks of grey parrots. This ultimate adventure will include seven nights: five nights at Camp Imbalanga in the equatorial forests of Odzala-Kokoua and two nights in Brazzaville.
Odzala-Kokoua is one of Africa’s oldest national parks known for its forest baïs – island clearings in the middle of the rainforest. Here, marshy areas rich in minerals and salts attract a plethora of wildlife. In addition to forest elephants and lowland gorillas, the national park is also home to dwarf crocodiles, golden pottos, African golden cat, sitatunga, Demidoff’s dwarf galagos, Lord Derby’s flying squirrels and a host of other mysterious creatures.
Camp Imbalanga, an African Parks-run camp, is a fully catered unfenced forest lodge. The lodge is a 3-minute walk along a walkway from Imbalanga Baï, one of many baïs in Odzala-Kokoua National Park where guests can view secretive wildlife species such as western lowland gorillas and forest elephants – providing extraordinary photographic opportunities for the competition winners.
Photographer of the Year 2025 is open for entries from 1 February to midnight on 30 April 2025. The annual photographic competition celebrates Africa, with entrants contributing breathtaking images of the continent, from wildlife action and safari experiences to African culture and landscapes.
