Africa gains momentum in global tourism growth race
Africa is strengthening its position within the global tourism industry, with the continent recording more than 80 million visitors in 2025 — an 8% increase year-on-year, according to UN Tourism data. Tourism spending also rose by 5%, outperforming several mature tourism markets, as growing investment, improved connectivity and broader destination offerings continue to drive momentum across the continent.
Industry leaders note that Africa is benefiting from shifting global travel dynamics, with airlines increasing services to destinations such as Kenya, Ethiopia and Southern Africa. Beyond traditional safari tourism, the continent is increasingly positioning itself around culture, gastronomy, coastal tourism, innovation hubs and business travel. However, challenges around intra-African connectivity, visa access and infrastructure remain key priorities if Africa is to fully capitalise on its tourism growth potential.
