A Brand-New Era for Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp
- Cut-above camp-living in the Ngorongoro Crater’s enchanting highland scenery -
Right at the edge of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp and its brand-new safari tents sit amongst the region’s striking acacia trees. Facing south into the fernlike crown of the forest's canopy, the camp has a unique perspective on the wow-inducing extinct-volcano landscape.
FIRST-CLASS COMFORT IN THE CRATER
All 10 of the classic canvas tents have been beautifully decorated and furnished with an earthy natural palette, highlighted with reddish-browns accents and the pale yellows of acacia blossom, complementing the biodiversity of this remarkable terrain.
Each tent has an ensuite bathroom, designed for contemporary tastes, with an indoor camp shower. Mod cons are all there such as hairdryers, plug points and gym bags, containing a yoga mat, weights, skipping rope and a resistance band. The word ‘glamping’ certainly applies when describing these chic tents — as well as stylish wooden framed furniture, and luxurious beds, designer pieces such as butterfly chairs in rich dark browns add a touch of glamour.
ELEVATED COMMUNAL SPACES
An entirely new lounge area, a dining room with linen-covered tables and sparkling tableware, and wraparound decking have been created — all raised up to ensure panoramic views over the flat-topped acacias. Soft fabric cascades down from the tent-top, giving an elegant sense to complement the restful sofas and fauteuils, and the striking photography on show. The extensive terrace encourages all to bask in the warmth of the firepit by night, meeting to swap stories, resting in the semicircle of seats, faces lit by the flames. Perfect to enjoy a precious digital detox, and the opportunity to connect with nature — and each other.
SUPERB PERSONAL SERVICE
Each private abode has a designated attendant who brings tea and coffee first thing in the morning and ensures the camp shower is the perfect temperature whenever required. Meals are carefully prepared with the tastiest ingredients, lunches are light and fresh with a sprinkling of African spices, while dinners are often delicious hearty curries or stews.
A CRADLE OF WILDLIFE
Quick and easy access to the Ngorongoro Crater floor is guaranteed with the camp’s location on the east-side of the rim, a short distance from the access road. Thanks to the year-round water supply in the Ngorongoro Crater, there’s a captivating cast on the 100 sq mile crater floor of black rhinos, wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo and elephants, and this natural enclosure is also home to a significant population of predators, including lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard. The camp’s Maasai wardens are keen to take guests on tracks in the surrounding forest and out to the rolling hills beyond, where the thatch roofs of authentic Maasai huts catch the sunlight, thus ensuring there’s never a dull moment for safari-goers staying at Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp.
