About Us

Colobus Conservation is a not-for-profit organization working to support, promote and advocate forest conservation to ensure the long-term survival of the nationally threatened Angolan black and white colobus monkey (Colobus angolensis palliatus) and other primates on the South Coast of Kenya, mainly in Diani.

Colobus Conservation was founded in January 1997 and was as a direct result of local residents in Diani becoming extremely concerned by the impact of human development on the populations of primate species in the area, especially due to the high number of road accidents involving colobus monkeys.

Sadly the need for our work has intensified over the years, due to increased development within the Diani area. To meet demands Colobus Conservation has broadened its’ programs focusing on habitat conservation, community linkages, people/primate conflict management, welfare, education and eco-tourism awareness programme. The work of Colobus Conservation is recognized internationally by AZA Colobus Species Survival Plan (SSP) and Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA) accreditation.Colobus Conservation is a Kenyan registered, not for profit company limited by guarantee and not having a share capital.

OUR MISSION:

To promote, in close co-operation with other organisations and local communities, the conservation, preservation and protection of primates, in particular the Angolan colobus monkey (Colobus angolensis palliatus) and its associated coastal forest habitat in Kenya.

OUR GOALS:

Conserve and protect the Angolan Colobus and other primate species and their habitats in Coastal Kenya

Inspire interest and participation through education, research and awareness in primate and environmental conservation

To reduce the impact of human development on the environment in Diani and coastal Kenya

Respond and deliver a high quality primate rescue and rehabilitation service

Be a considerate employer through training and fair wage structure

To be financially sustainable, producing high quality valuable work with transparent governance

Diani Turtle Watch

Website http://localocean.co

Sea turtles are vulnerable to human impact on the environment. Since sea turtles need a wide range of habitats throughout their lives, they are impacted by:

Development of the beach environment

Destruction of the mangrove forest

Destruction of sea grass meadows

Destruction of coral reefs

Climate change & Ocean level rise

Pollution

These threats to sea turtles are also negatively impacting humanity, through coastal erosion, loss of food security, weather extremes and loss of livelihoods.

As sea turtles are such a fantastic indicator of ocean health, if we protect and enhance the environmental elements that sea turtles need to thrive, humanity will also benefit greatly.
