The Sofia Luna Azzola Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 2016 by the Azzola family, owner of Gold Zanzibar Beach House & Spa resort in Kendwa, in the north of the island.
Our love for the beautiful island of Zanzibar and its people has led the founding members to create this organization with the aim of providing different opportunities to improve the life of the local communities and support other realities of discomfort on the island.
During the years the Foundation has worked in cooperation with other organizations that try to contribute to the education and growth of the new generations, in particular schools and orphanages, improving their facilities (computer rooms, classrooms, toilets) and supplying teaching materials.
Every single dollar is donated entirely to the projects, all the other costs are paid by the members of the Foundation or are achieved thanks to our volunteers.
2019 was a very successful year for the organization as we were able to build entirely a new kindergarten in Kendwa village and we could guarantee teachers wages, school uniforms and materials for 200 children. Furthermore, in 2022, the second school was opened in Kendwa: a newly built nursery school built thanks to the social commitment of the Foundation, responding to the regional tender to help improving the learning environment for children.
On May 2023, the third school was inaugurated in Zanzibar, near Pongwe bay: the Foundation renovated the classrooms, the water system, the bathrooms and the walls of the school, in order to improve the learning environment for the young students .
All this is possible thanks to the support and generosity of our guests, partners or simple supporters, without forgetting the generous collaboration of the whole Gold Zanzibar and Bawe Island staff!
