Overview

Sustainable Ceder main purpose is the development and implementation of a strategic and collaborative approach to the re-establishment of the Clanwilliam cedar. We act as the central link between various organisations, partners, role-players, tourists, and communities within the Cederberg. Through this integrated conservation model, we strive to increase the effectiveness of our conservation efforts while also uplifting local communities and promoting sustainable economic opportunities within the region. Establish a well-managed main nursery, together with strategically located satellite nurseries, for the propagation of Clanwilliam cedar seedlings. Strategically plant Clanwilliam cedar saplings in the most suitable locations within the natural range of the species. Monitor seedlings (nursery) and saplings (in-field) to evaluate success, improve methods, and increase long-term survival and recruitment rates. Strengthen collaborative efforts to accelerate the re-establishment of the Clanwilliam cedar population. Increase local and international awareness of the Clanwilliam cedar and its unique ecosystem. Expand environmental education initiatives with schools in and around the Cederberg region. Encourage active local community involvement in conservation and restoration initiatives. Increase collaboration with organisations and stakeholders to support social and economic development within local communities. Promote sustainable local community tourism by developing responsible eco-tourism experiences, such as guided cedar walks, conservation participation activities, and educational visits, creating income-generating opportunities while fostering environmental stewardship.
