Overview

Jaci’s Private Lodge is a family-owned luxury safari lodge in South Africa’s malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve. Set along the Marico River, it combines exceptional wildlife encounters with colourful design, warm hospitality and spaces that invite guests to settle into the rhythm of the bush.

Founded by Jaci and Jan van Heteren, and now welcoming the next generation of family leadership through Dane and Tristan, Jaci’s carries forward a genuinely personal approach to safari. Following an extensive rebuild, the Jaci's reopened in July 2026 as one reimagined lodge, offering a welcoming escape for couples, honeymooners, families and friends.

Accommodation comprises six Safari Suites for up to two adults each, four Safari Suite Expeditions accommodating up to two adults and two children each, and three exclusive-use villas. The suites feature private decks, sunken lounges and access to the main lodge pool. Kubu Villa overlooks the Marico River, while Nare Villa overlooks a waterhole; each offers three bedrooms for up to six guests. Jaci’s Madikwe House offers five bedrooms for up to ten guests. All three villas have private pools and generous spaces for spending time together.

Twice-daily guided game drives explore Madikwe’s diverse landscapes and remarkable wildlife, including the Big Five, African wild dogs and cheetah. Between drives, guests can enjoy birdwatching, viewing decks and the renowned Terrapin Hide, offering intimate, eye-level wildlife encounters and outstanding photographic opportunities.

The main lodge brings together relaxed lounges, a welcoming bar, Jan’s Wine Cellar and varied dining settings, from the riverside deck to evenings around the boma fire. A Big Five fence surrounds the lodge grounds, where the river path offers another way to explore at free will. The central swimming pool, infrared sauna and Finfoot Treatment Room provide opportunities to unwind.

For an unforgettable night beneath the stars, the Naledi Sleepout offers a distinctive experience overlooking a waterhole. Guided bush walks, specialised photographic safaris and massage treatments can be arranged, subject to availability and additional charges.

With thoughtful activities for younger guests, flexible accommodation and convenient access from Johannesburg and Gaborone, Jaci’s offers a safari shaped around connection: to nature, to one another and to the people who make every stay personal.

Jaci's Staff Trust.

At Jaci’s Private Lodge, our people are at the heart of everything we do. The Jaci’s Staff Trust reflects our commitment to sharing the success of the business with the dedicated team who bring the lodge to life.

Through the Trust, staff hold a collective 27.2% ownership stake in the business. Team members who have worked at Jaci’s for more than five years have the opportunity to participate as shareholders, receiving their share of annual dividends through the Trust.

With the majority of our team drawn from the surrounding communities, this shared ownership model extends the benefits of tourism beyond the lodge. It recognises long-term commitment, creates opportunities for financial empowerment and strengthens the connection between our people and the future of Jaci’s.

For our guests and travel partners, choosing Jaci’s Private Lodge means supporting a business where the people who shape the experience also share in its success.
