The new Spier Hotel is set to reopen its doors on 1 March 2025, following an extensive year-long redevelopment. With just 80 exclusive rooms, two exceptional restaurants, three vibrant bars (including the eagerly awaited Rooftop Bar), and an array of wellness and family-focused offerings, we’re thrilled to introduce this exciting new chapter for Spier.
Austen Johnston is a hospitality professional with a diverse and distinguished career that began at prestigious establishments such as Ellerman House, Cape Grace, and Granger Bay Hotel School. He is widely recognised for his leadership and expertise in the luxury hospitality sector. Before joining Spier, he served as Chief Operating Officer at Time + Tide, a prominent luxury safari and private island resort business with 11 award-winning properties in Madagascar and Zambia. In this role, he managed various business units, including Miavana by Time + Tide, a luxury private island resort.
Previous roles, such as Operations Manager at North Island, General Manager at Kensington Place, and Senior Management at Ellerman House, have solidified Austen’s reputation for delivering world-class guest experiences. With a rich history in luxury boutique hotels and hospitality management, Austen’s expertise is underscored by his dedication to excellence and proven success. He joined Spier at the start of 2024 to contribute to the relaunch of the new Spier Hotel.
