Malawi Connections

There have been a number of changes to airlines operating to and from Malawi over the last few months. Ulendo Safaris have given a helpful overview of the myriad of options that there now are for travellers to Malawi:

Kenya Airways

Now operating modern Embraer 190 and Dreamliner B787 on key routes including Lilongwe. 17 Flights per week operate between Nairobi and Lilongwe, while 3 direct services operate between Nairobi and Blantyre weekly.

Ethiopian Airlines

Daily 737-800 services from Addis Ababa to Lilongwe, and then onto Blantyre and back to Addis. Ethiopian Airlines now service more than 80 international destinations with more than 13 of those in Europe and North America.

South African Airways

Regular services from OR Tambo in Johannesburg fly to Lilongwe on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Sunday while Blantyre is serviced on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Great onward connections to both domestic and international destinations with arguably the easiest options for travel to the United States. A number of European airlines flying to Johannesburg, including British Airways, Virgin and Delta, offer fares to Lilongwe in conjunction with South African Airways.

Proflight Zambia

3 direct services each week between Lusaka and Lilongwe with excellent connections to Livingstone.

Malawian Airlines

Gone are the days of old, unreliable national airlines operating outdated equipment. Malawian Airlines is a joint venture between Ethiopian Airlines and the Malawi Government. Operating next Generation Boeing 737-800 and Dash Q400 aircraft, the airline links Malawi to Johannesburg on a daily basis. Other routes include Harare, Lusaka, Beira, Tete, Nampula and Dar es Salaam.

Ulendo Airlink

Provides great domestic flight connections with 2 flights per day between Likoma Island and Lilongwe, daily flights to Mfuwe and 3 flights per week to the Southern Region servicing Club Makokola, Liwonde, Monkey Bay and Majete Game Reserve. In 2015 guests will be able to fly from any of the Southern Region destinations direct to Likoma Island.
