South Africa: Minister Gigaba to Consider DA Submission On Visa Regulations

The Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba, will accept a formal written submission from the DA on the new Visa Regulations, for consideration in his ongoing review of these stringent new rules.

This morning, with DA Shadow Minister of Home Affairs, Haniff Hoosen, and DA Shadow Minister of Tourism, James Vos, I met with the Minister to discuss critical problems in the Visa Regulations, highlighting that they have the potential to seriously undermine job creation and investment.

Both parties agreed that significant unintended consequences are being suffered by South Africans, and visitors to South Africa.

The consequences of these new regulations have the potential to kill jobs in South Africa in the immigration services sector, tourism sector and many others. Further, the consequences have the potential to slow down tourism inflow and are dividing families who call South Africa home.

The DA welcomes the Minister's move to accept our detailed submissions on amendments to the regulations, which will be handed to the Minister next week.

A further meeting with the Minister was also agreed to, after he has studied the DA submission.
