Tourism contributes to gorilla population increases in Uganda

The Uganda Wildlife Authority has today announced the official results of the 2018 Bwindi-Sarambwe Mountain Gorilla population survey. The numbers in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda and Sarambwe Reserve, in neighbouring DR Congo, are now estimated to be at least 459 gorillas, a huge increase from the 2011 survey which stood at just 400.

Zambia's Great Balls of Chilli!

Zambia has seen great success in tackling the human-elephant conflict through the introduction of chilli blasting. Conflicts between humans and wildlife has increased in the Luangwa Valley following community and residential development, as elephants continue to forage for food but as they do so, they raid crops and cause damage to properties in the surrounding villages. In turn, this creates and provokes negative feeling between the locals and the elephants, as some farmers lose their livelihoods as a result of the intrusion.

Kamageo destinations sparkle despite lacklustre WTM

Whilst WTM London attracted a disappointingly low number of UK tour operators, Kamageo’s destinations proved the stars of the African and Indian Ocean sections. Mauritius appeared to be by far the busiest Indian Ocean stand, which suggests the island’s supposed loss of fashionability has been entirely reversed. Operators highlighted that 2019 had proved a tough year for Mauritius but that 2020 bookings were looking hugely encouraging.

New Fees For Gorilla Permits are Announced

Uganda Wildlife Authority has announced an increase of $100 for gorilla permits in two parks, Mgahinga and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Permits will be raised from US$600 at present, to $700 next year as of the 1st July 2020.  Since the steep increase of the cost of gorilla permits in a neighbouring country last year, speculation has been ongoing to see if Uganda would follow suit. So it’s great news for visitors that the increase is only by $100 and a brilliant move to keep demand for gorilla tracking in Uganda.

Kamageo played its part in Sierra Leone’s investment forum in London last week, which attracted 150 more delegates than the 200 that had been anticipated. Due to perceived client conflict, TANTOO initiative will end soon.

Whilst TANTOO (Tanzania Tourism Organisation) which was launched in mid-2018, is a private sector initiative and not a national tourist board account, it has been perceived by Uganda Tourism Board to be directly competitive to their work in the UK. Whilst obviously disappointed, Kamageo has been working for UTB since 2016 and has therefore accepted this decision. As a result, TANTOO will cease operations later this year.

Zimbabwe Tourism to screen exclusive premiere of Disney's Lion King

In London, on 19th July 2019, Disney releases their new CGI live action version of 'The Lion King', with ZIMTO (Zimbabwe Tourism Organisation) screening an exclusive premiere in the iconic Odeon Cinema, Leicester Square. We're delighted to announce that the London venue for the Safari Roadshow will be aboard The Yacht London (www.theyachtlondon.com), which is moored at Victoria Embankment on the Thames.  The Safari Roadshow which is in London from Wednesday 27th February  - Friday 1st March will host different sessions for 40 exhibitors from Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Kamageo is delighted to confirm that all available exhibitor places on the four-country UK Safari Roadshow have now sold out. The events which run from Monday 26th February through to Friday 1st March feature individual sessions for Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania and Tanzania.  Event coordinator, Tracey Sutton explained, "Whilst the first three countries were filled pre-Christmas, we didn't offer the Zimbabwe spaces until the New Year. A print campaign has been launched for Tanzania this month, with the first full-page ad appearing in the December issue of BBC Wildlife. Tanzania Country Manager at Kamageo - Lisa Burton - explained that "The campaign highlights that Tanzania delivers the very same safari experiences that you dreamt of so excitedly as a child". Uganda increases gorilla permits

Uganda has increased the QUANTITY of mountain gorilla permits available each day in Bwindi Impentrable Forest, whilst the PRICE stays the same! Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has been inundated with permit requests as a result of significantly increased tourism to Uganda during 2018, so the completion of the habituation of the Katwe group (in Buhoma) and the Christmas group (in Nkuringo) couldn't have come at a better time.

Safari Roadshow Dates Announced

Kamageo has confirmed the dates for next year’s week-long trade event – The Safari Roadshow – which will visit venues across the UK. Following the success of similar UK roadshows for Uganda and Zambia, as well as requests for opportunities from other countries, Kamageo has extended the event to incorporate four destinations in to one ‘mega-show’. Malawi Leads the Way in Animal Conservation
