Our Commitment to Responsible Tourism

Hoopoe has been a pioneer in not just embracing, but in fact developing, Community Involved Sustainable Tourism – which is why Hoopoe was honored with the “Best Eco-Tourism Company in the World” award by Condé Nast ten years ago this year. Critical to Sustainable Tourism is that local people and communities are not just involved, but enfranchised in the Safari and tourism business. If local people and communities do not have a real viable stake in the Safari business, then one of the last great, unique, wonderful wildlife spectacles on this earth will perish. However, Sustainable Tourism can be a true win-win-win situation – it is a win for the great herds of Game and the very fragile Eco-system, a win for local people and communities as they receive training, education, medical care, and share in the success of such sustainable Tourism business, and it is a win for all participants from local safari companies and the cadres of local employees, and the tour companies and travel agents that support projects and companies that foster and embrace real Sustainable Tourism through the involvement of Local People and Communities. By just going on an East African Safari, in addition to the fun, excitement and learning experience of a life time, one is helping to realize the objectives of real sustainable tourism.
