New CEO appointed for Angama Mara
By Umbraco.Web.PublishedCache.MemberPublishedContentIn the wake of Steve Fitzgerald’s untimely passing on 21 October 2017, the Angama Board has offered Nicky Fitzgerald the position of CEO, which she has accepted with immediate effect.
‘As you are all painfully aware, this has been a very difficult time for me, my family and all the Angama staff, but we will rise to the challenge of making Steve’s dream come true’ said Nicky.
Together with newly appointed CFO, Steve Mitchell (better known as Mitch) who is already a director of Angama Mara, Nicky adds: ‘Both Mitch and I are well aware of the large shoes we need to fill, and we are focused on what needs to be done in both the short and medium terms. He and I have worked side by side since the conception of Angama Mara and we compliment each other well – I wish him every success in his new position. I am currently at the lodge working closely with the team to ensure on going smooth operations here. I am so proud of how they have kept delivering guest delight whilst mourning their loss – they all loved Steve dearly’.
About Nicky Fitzgerald
Nicky and her husband Steve opened their first hotel in 1982 at the foot of the African continent. Thirty-five years on and she is still in the industry running her own lodge, Angama Mara, in Kenya. Nicky’s journey in hospitality has taken her from South Africa’s Western Cape through all the major wilderness high spots of Africa, and later India, where she was part of a team that built, opened, ran and marketed over 50 safari lodges for &Beyond. Nicky also spent two years exploring ecotourism possibilities in Latin America. Now she is back at the front door of her lodge – a place she loves best of all.
