Ethiopian cycling tours get front cover of Cyclist Magazine

The new road cycling tours launched by Ethiopia Specialist Tadele Travel features over 20 pages in the latest issue of Cyclist magazine (issue 60 / May 2017) including a full-page picture on the front cover entitled ‘Hidden Gem.’ Writing in the magazine, Cyclist editor Pete Muir comments: “there’s no reason why Ethiopia can’t have the same impact on cycling as it’s had on distance running. The birthplace of mankind could be the future of our sport.”

The tours being available by Tadele Travel are set in the country’s northernmost province of Tigray, passing through the ancient city of Axum and the scenic Gheralta Mountains. This region has long been established as the country’s cycling hub and is the birthplace of current UCI World Tour rider Tsgabu Grmay of the Bahrain-Merida team. Home to some of the Ethiopia’s iconic sights such as the rock-hewn churches of Tigray that date back to the 4th century, it also has excellent tourism infrastructure and a network of international-standard hotels.

Tours will be led by Tadele Travel co-owner Richard Nerurkar. Richard, a former GB marathon runner and ex-race director of the Great Ethiopian Run, will be joined by Alemayehu Sitotaw who has a 35-year history as a competitive cyclist in Ethiopia.
