A Celebration of Painted WolvesBy Painted Wolf Wines
A Celebration of Painted Wolves is a fund raising adventure hosted by Painted Wolf wines and wine maker Jeremy Borg to help Tusk in their £5 million fund raising drive.
Over three weeks from May 15th 2015 to June 7th 2015 Jeremy will ride a bicycle roughly 850 miles (1400kms) from Padstow in Cornwall to Edinburgh in Scotland. On the way he will host a number of wine tasting events and dinners and present a wild life exhibition and auction. There will be a Pedals 4 Paws cycle ride from Cirencester to London on 7th June to end the tour.
Artists who have kindly donated work include Kim Wolhouter and Greg DuToit who have both been leading participants in the BBC Wildlife photographers of the year, celebrated Zimbabwean painted Lin Barrie and top wild life sculpture Nick Mackman plus a number of other very fine artists. The work creates a wonderful representation of this incredible animal.
A full list of venues for the Celebration of Painted Wolves and a catalogue showing the art work will be available on line from www.paintedwolfwines.com. Cyclists wishing to join can contact Jeremy directly
Jeremy Borg and Painted Wolf Wines produce boutique wines with a distinctive South African feel, and to that end, focus largely on wines crafted from Chenin Blanc and Pinotage – the two bench mark South African grape varieties, and on Rhone varietals. Grapes are sourced from their pack member’s vineyards, which are low yielding, mostly unirrigated and organically certified or with minimal non-organic inputs.
The “Painted Wolf” (Lycaon Pictus), also known as the African Wild Dog or Painted Dog , is one of Africa’s most fascinating and highly endangered mammals. They have a highly co-operative family social structure and are extremely persistent and effective hunters. They are our inspiration. We support the conservation of this intriguing and beautiful animal with a contribution from every bottle of wine sold and through our communications to respected organizations such as the Tusk Trust.www.tusk.org. Painted Wolf Wines was set up to donate a portion of turnover to conservation, and have donated roughly 5% of annual turnover since the company was founded in 2007. We later began to raise money through cycling adventures through the wilderness of Southern Africa.
With only 450 wild dogs remaining in South Africa, and 4500 in the whole of Africa, they are one of Africa’s most endangered large mammals. Habitat loss and persecution have driven the dogs into isolated pockets of land. Painted Wolf Wines is dedicated to help prevent the steady slide of the Painted Wolf into extinction. The company took inspiration from the pack dynamics of the Painted Wolf and works along similar lines, drawing together a diverse group of talented individuals who come together to advise, engage with or contribute to the company.
The Tusk www.tusk.org is a leading UK conservation charity whose patron in HRH Prince William. This year Tusk celebrate 25 years of commitment to Africa’s remaining wild spaces.
Painted Wolf Wines are imported into the UK by North South Wines. Our range of wines will be available at London Wine Fair on stand No E10
