The Aberdare Country Club upgrade completed
Marasa Africa, announces the completion of a total refurbishment of an historic safari lodge in Kenya, the Aberdare Country Club. The completion coincides with the 75th anniversary of the original structure. Prior to Marasa Africa, the Aberdare Country Club was a Fairmont Hotel.
The Aberdare Country Club is strikingly set on the crest of a hill in a wildlife sanctuary that covers the higher areas of the heavily forested Aberdare Mountain range in Kenya. “The goal in refurbishing the Aberdare Country Club,” said Managing Director Roni Madhvani, “was to maintain the heritage of the property with its English country club look and its high-life atmosphere.” Cottages are set into the hillside with commanding views of the breathtaking panorama of the mountains beyond.
Rooms and suites boast fireplaces, and beds are warmed with hot water bottles to stave off chilly evenings. Completely renovated bathrooms use high-standard, natural materials, wood and stone. The refurbishment included staff housing and kitchens. The club comprises 19 two-bedroom cottages, twins and doubles, plus one three-bedroom and one five-bedroom cottage. There are a total of 47 rooms.
Common areas that have been refurbished include the bar, reception area, swimming pool and conference room. A Health Club featuring gym and yoga areas is a new addition as is a VIP suite replete with self-contained kitchen. Golf carts ease transportation for guests staying in the elevated cottages. Other upgrades include renovation of the riding stables, bringing the nine-hole golf course up to standard, and re-stocking the game sanctuary with a greater variety of wildlife.
